Additional information

This lesson on Standard Operating Procedures has been carefully designed to deal with the topic of SOPs in a fun and highly active manner.

The lesson presents different ways of viewing SOPs and provides research on what happens when SOPs are not adhered to. Students will discuss why deviations from SOPs occur and reflect on their own SOPs breaches.

In this package, we also include a group work session in which groups/individuals must adhere to and follow three seemingly simple SOPs. Students will here gain experience with the fact that we all have different interpretations of an SOP, although it may seem straightforward. It will allow them to develop an awareness of just how puzzling following instructions/SOPs can be. During the lesson, you and your students will also discuss strategies to overcome the challenges of adhering to SOPs.

The lesson is highly flexible, as elements can be omitted or included at the trainer’s discretion.
