Additional information

With each new generation of aircraft, the concept of automation becomes even more critical to examine. The increased amount of automation offers both benefits and potential risks.

In this lesson, we assess the role of pilot flying and pilot monitoring. We look at the human attention span and the four levels of automation and statistics related to different monitoring aspects.

The lesson plan also takes a look at levels of intervention. It provides different intervention scenarios where students get the chance to practice doing effective interventions themselves. We also go into how to receive an intervention constructively.
