As a relatively young training provider of Human Factors and Crew Resource Management (2011), NaviMinds have had a very 2 clear goals from the start:
1) to create a complete training concept that was applicable not only to aviation, but to wide range of safety critical industries.
2) to lift CRM and Human Factors training to new, eye-opening levels that go beyond lecturing and theory.
One significant area where NaviMinds differ substantially from other more traditional training providers of Human Factors and Crew Resource Management training, is our approach to experiential learning. We believe that humans learn not exclusively from theory and from what we are told, lectured or have read. Humans also largely learn from our experiences. Perhaps specifically so when we are talking about attitudinal, behavioral and cultural aspects which are all at the core of Human Factors training. So, to us effective human factors training is also about creating experiences. Not only do experiences trigger reflection, they help deepen understanding and boost memory retention.
Our team has spent years developing numerous group activities/exercises designed to create intriguing and surprising experiences. These “eye-openers” are powerful in triggering reflection about one’s own beliefs, attitudes and behaviors, but also in uncovering group dynamics that may be more or less productive. They furthermore help the trainer appear neutral making it “less dangerous” to access any areas that may require attention. Or as we refer to it: “Our exercises speak louder and more clearly than any teacher”. It is equally important to mention that each learning activity we use always has specific learning points attached to it and help “couple” theory and practice. In other words they help make abstract concepts easier to grasp for the student. A training course and material developed by NaviMinds will therefore not only include the more well-known theoretical aspects but will be complimented by several engaging, experiential learning activities. These are not only exclusive to NaviMinds but also a fundamental part of our concept and for creating the reflection which is essential to leave lasting impressions and for achieving the desired individual and cultural changes over time.
